Sport Gear

Those who know we well, know that I do not practice impulse buying. I sit on it. I sleep on it. I research it. And sometimes I have to earn it in sweat and tears.
My trusted sources for expert advice are OutdoorGearLab, WireCutter, DC rainmaker, Reddit, a few cycling Facebook groups, and the recommendations by my fellow cycling team mates.
By writing this list, I hope to pay it forward. Ask me about the rationale and alternatives.
Swimming
- The Magic 5 custom swim goggles: expensive, yet they perform as advertised. The box and additional nose bridges are a plug
- Kayenne Adult Swim Goggles: affordable, comfortable on longer swims.
- Onvous Swim Jammers: no frills, inexpensive.
Cycling
- Trek Checkpoint SL5 gravel bike
- Garmin 840 cycling computer: I waited for a long time until the x40 series came out. For an in-depth review, check the DC Rainmaker review.
- Garmin RTL515 radar and tail light: safety first. The mountain brackets to work with my saddlebag was hard to find. I also use a CAT Eye - AMPP500 Rechargeable Bike Headlight
- Wahoo TICKR Heart Rate Monitor
- Bontrager WaveCel helmet: It is ok, but not spectacular.
- Lizard Skins Cycling Bar Tape: great for gravel rides. I also bought Enve Handlebar tape for my next retaking.
- Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H Tubeless 700x35: amazing tire. Almost no punctures. I use it together with Orange Seal sealant.
- SKS GERMANY X-Tra Dry Rear Bicycle Fender
- Galibier Tourmalet rain jacket: This brand out of Northern Ireland is amazing. I also bought their Arctic rain Overshoe.
- Chamois Butt’r
Running
- Brooks Glycerin GTS 21: after running in Brooks Ghost running shoes, I first switched to Hoka Arahi for more support. I am now back to Brooks with this lofty stability shoe.
General
- ASICS Men’s 5IN PR Lyte Short 2.0 Apparel
- Under Armour Mens Armour Heatgear 3/4 Leggings
- Beats Fit Pro earbuds
- Fitbit Area smart scale
- Sun Bum Signature SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion - compact
On the Look Out
- I am looking to replace my aging Apple Watch 4. I am keeping my eye out for either an Apple Watch Ultra or a Garmin Epix Pro. Still on the fence and awaiting release updates from Garmin.
